FAQs
Everything people ask us about the kit, baking it, and getting it to your door.
The kit
What comes in the box?
One dry pouch with the add-ins already mixed in, one wet pouch ready to pour, a pair of mixing gloves, a water scoop and a sheet of compostable parchment. From your kitchen you need water, a bowl, a baking sheet and an oven.
Do I need any ingredients of my own?
Just water. The butter and egg are already in the kit, so there is no shopping, no scale and no measuring spoons to wash.
How many cookies does one kit make?
Six bakery-style cookies. Each scoop of dough is a little bigger than a golf ball, about 70 grams.
What is in The Everything?
A buttery dough with two kinds of chocolate, toffee, caramel, pretzels, oats and dried cherries. In order: unbleached enriched flour, brown sugar, milk chocolate chips, semi-sweet chocolate chunks, butter powder, sugar, avocado oil, caramels, toffee bits, whole grain rolled oats, dried tart cherries, pretzels, dried whole egg, vanilla powder, cornstarch, salt, baking soda and baking powder. The full label, sub-ingredients included, is on the kit page.
What allergens does it contain? Is it gluten free, dairy free or nut free?
The Everything contains wheat, milk, egg, soy and almond (a tree nut). It is not gluten free, dairy free or nut free, and it is made in a kitchen that handles all of those.
I lost my scoop. What should I do?
Use 2 tablespoons of water for the 6-cookie kit.
Baking
How long does it take?
About 25 minutes from opening the box to cookies on the table, with less than 15 minutes of hands-on time. Preheat to 350°F, mix for 2 minutes, scoop six dough balls, bake 12 to 15 minutes, then cool for 10.
Do I need a mixer, a scale or any baking experience?
No. You mix the dough with your hands, gloves on, for about 2 minutes. Michele is a chemical engineer and spent years getting the ratios right so the recipe comes out the same every time. The only skill required is turning on an oven.
How do I know when the cookies are done?
Check at 12 minutes. You want golden edges and a soft center. Ovens run hotter or cooler than their dial says, so trust the look over the clock. The cookies finish setting as they cool, so give them the full 10 minutes before you pick one up.
Is there a step-by-step guide?
Yes. The bake page walks you through every step with timers, the videos from our kitchen, and a hands-free voice mode so you can keep your gloves on.
Can I bake it with kids?
Yes, and it is one of our favorite ways to use a kit. Kids can do the mixing and scooping with their own hands, and there is only one bowl to clean up. An adult should handle the oven.
Ordering and drops
What is a drop, and why do you sell out?
We bake and pack kits in small batches in Chicago. When a batch is ready we open a drop, and it stays open until that batch is gone. If you are on the waitlist you get an email the moment a drop opens, which is the surest way to get one.
How much does a kit cost?
One kit is $22. Three-kit and six-kit packs bring the price per kit down; the current pack prices are on the kit page. Shipping and any sales tax are shown at checkout before you pay.
How can I pay?
Any major card, plus Apple Pay and Google Pay at checkout.
Is there a reward for coming back?
Every tenth kit you buy is free. Kits count once their order has shipped, on orders placed with the email on your account. Free kits and refunded orders do not count toward the next one.
Shipping
Where do you ship, and how long does it take?
We ship anywhere in the United States from Chicago. Most kits arrive in 3 to 5 business days after they ship.
How much is shipping?
A flat $6.95, and free on orders of $50 or more.
My kit arrived damaged, incomplete or not at all.
Email hello@splashbaking.com within 7 days of delivery, or of the day it was due, with your order details and a photo if you can. We will replace it or refund you. Because the kits are food we cannot take returns, but we will always make a bad delivery right.
Gifts
Can I send a kit as a gift?
Yes. Choose "Make it a gift?" on the kit page or in the cart. You can add a note, and send kits to one person or to several people at their own addresses. Receipts come to your email, not theirs.
